Card structure in Medici

How Solitaire of Medici uses current-state cards, target cards, suits, and ranks.

Solitaire of Medici treats a layout as a card system: some cards describe the current state, some define the goal, and the suits and ranks provide the language for reading the result.

Current-state cards

The quartet of cards in the first column shows the current state through Tarot symbolism and numerology. The state is read across all four suits, or Elements, within the task of the layout.

Target cards

The quartet of cards in the sixteenth column defines the goal or task of the layout. The goal is also read across all four suits at the same time.

Suits

  • Denarii or Diamonds: something real and material.
  • Cups or Hearts: emotions, feelings, information.
  • Swords or Spades: thoughts or will.
  • Wands or Clubs: circumstances and probabilities.

Ranks

  • 0: no manifestation of the suit element.
  • 1: impulse, push.
  • 2: interaction.
  • 3: system.
  • 4: nature, naturalness, form.
  • 5: portal, gate, flow, passage.
  • 6: activity, exchange, circulation.
  • 7: harmony.
  • 8: form within form, a stable structure.
  • 9: completion, wholeness, mastery, or perfection.
  • 10: transition to a new level, transformation.
  • J: messenger of the world, envoy of the spirit, one who comes in peace.
  • Q: persona, VIP person.
  • R: trend, fashion, tailwind, being "on horseback."
  • K: law, conductor of law, representative of law.
  • A: force majeure or miracle.
