Four of Swords

In Kabbalah, the Four is nature, naturalness, and simple form. Swords are will, action, thought, and information.

Thus the Four of Swords is simple, natural will, action, and thought. It may symbolize instincts and many unconditioned reflexes.

The distinguishing feature of the Four of Swords is behavior patterns of will and action that serve the survival of the individual tactically or strategically.

Deeper patterns of will serve survival of the species as a whole. Higher-level patterns become universal spiritual laws needed for the survival of the universe.

The reversed Four of Swords can symbolize broken instincts and unconditioned reflexes, often accompanied by deep mental illness.

Naturalness of thought, will, and effort:

  • Natural instincts.
  • Survival instinct.
  • Territorial instinct.
  • Reproductive instinct.
  • Maternal instinct.
  • Dominance, leadership, self-sacrifice, and protection instincts.
